Airline operator TUI are in the process of making new destinations available from the Cardiff Airport, as well as giving holidaymakers the choice of more shorter breaks for their summer trips.
This exciting news means that passengers will have the option to fly from Cardiff to Dubrovnik and Naples for their 2019 Summer trips for the first time. The group also announced new flight paths to Hurghada in Egypt which will run from this November and throughout next summer. Passengers will also have the luxury to now choose from 10 or 11 night holidays, as well as the usual 7 or 14 in popular destinations such as Zante, Corfu, Rhodes and Kos in Greece as well as Paphos, Cyprus.
The addition of new routes to Cardiff comes after additional aircrafts have been stationed at the airport, in an attempt from TUI to increase capacity across the UK.
TUI UK’s commercial director, Richard Sofer said:
He said: “We are focusing firmly on expanding access to our amazing range of holidays through an extended regional flying programming concentrated on the core destinations holidaymakers want to travel to, while offering the flexibility of holiday duration they want.
“We’ve increased our capacity by basing an additional aircraft in Cardiff, adding 100,000 additional seats and three new routes from the Cardiff Airport for summer 2019. We are also giving customers even more opportunity when booking their summer holidays with more 10 and 11 night holidays.”
The increase in popularity for Mediterranean travel locations reflects the rise in popularity of destinations such as Croatia, Egypt and Southern France. Additional flights have also been added to Mahon, Menorca in Spain to begin next summer.
Mr Sofer made comments regarding TUI having a “very positive outlook” in the eyes of British holidaymakers, even during difficult financial years due to the weakness of the pound and uncertainty about the economy and Brexit. He also went on to say that 2018 had been “really positive” so far, with performance up until March beating last years figures.
Deb Barber, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said: “Today’s fantastic news demonstrates TUI’s commitment to delivering even more choice for Welsh customers in response to recent passenger growth at our national airport.
“It’s particularly exciting to see new routes to Naples, Dubrovnik and Hurghada – which will be ideal for holiday makers and cruise enthusiasts alike, not to mention even more flights to Greece, Cyprus and the Balearics.”
